Information to support participants who stop taking part

What is it?

Clinical trial participants who stop taking part early have particular information needs. They might want to know what happens next, or whether they can still receive results of the study. It can be important to remind them if any aspects of their participation might still be carrying on, such as when data about them will be retained.

A group of patients and University of Leeds researchers have put together some guidance about providing information like this to participants who have recently decided to stop or significantly reduce their participation in research studies.

Who is it for?

This is mainly for people who run research studies (for example, Trial Managers) and want to consider writing this sort of communication. It could also be useful for those who are in direct contact with research participants, to consider what sort of information participants might need around the time of stopping.
